Elizabeth Rochford, age 72, from the Bronx, NY passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 13, 2026. Her husband, Thomas Rochford was by her side. Born on November 18, 1953 in New York City to Arturo and Josefina Sanchez. Elizabeth or Liz was abright, genuine and passionate spirit from an early age. She graduated from the City University of New York with a Bachelor's Degree in Spanish and a Master's Degree in Bilingual Education. Elizabeth dedicated 30 years teaching to middle school students, providing support and advocating for her newly arrived bilingual/ESL immigrant students. Due to her advocacy and protection, Elizabeth's students were placed in various programs and were able to achieve academic success and eventually higher education.
Elizabeth had a zest for life and loved spending time with family. As a child she spent her summers in Puerto Rico with her parents visiting relatives. These years became cherished memories of time spent with uncles, aunts, and cousins. She found great joy when gathering with family members sharing stories and eating the food she loved. In addition to her family, Elizabeth thoroughly enjoyed being with friends laughing and having a good time. Her passions included dancing, music, the Jersey shore and most of all travelling the world.
Elizabeth lived her life to the fullest based on love and faith. Her values were instilled in her by loving parents and a catholic school education. Prayer and the catholic doctrine were her foundation and she lived each day by these ideals.
Elizabeth is survived by her husband, Thomas Rochford; her sisters and brother in laws, Cruz and Efrain Soler; Aida and David Delgado; and her brother and sister in law, Arthur and Catherine Sanchez; their children, Kristiana Soler, Martin Delgado, Elise Delgado, and Nik Delgado; and a wide circle of dear friends who felt like family.
The wake will be held on Thursday, September 17, 2026 at Riverdale on Hudson Funeral Home, 6110 Riverdale Avenue, at 9:00 AM. Mass of Christian Burial will be held following the wake at St Margaret Cortona Church, 6000 Riverdale Avenue, at 10:30 AM. Committal to be private.
