Robert Gallanty

June 12, 2026 Jeffrey Wiecek

Robert Gallanty, 94, passed away on Friday, June 12. He leaves behind the love of his life, Nancy Gallanty, with whom he was married for 66 years. He has two children, Julie and Jeff (Robin), six grandchildren, Jordana Rogers, Allegra Rogers, Miranda Rogers, Katelyn Gallanty, Christopher Gallanty, and Matthew Gallanty (Courtney), who adored him. Born in Tacoma, Washington, and raised between Seattle, Washington, and his grandparents' farm in Puyallup, WA. 

He went to the University of Utah and was drafted into the Air Force. When he finished his service, he moved to New York to start a career in interior design. He attended the New York School of Design on the GI Bill. He worked for several companies, including J. Gordan Carr, Bloomingdale's, Macy’s, Burger’s, Allied Stores, and he finished his career at NexCom.

He was an athletic person throughout his life. He was the fifth alternate for the US Olympic Skiing team and completed over 50 marathons around the world. He loved beer and brewed his own beer called Bob’s Bald Angel. He loved to travel with his family and was passionate about plants, volunteering with the New York Botanical Garden and Wave Hill for over fifteen years.  He was an exceptional cook and loved sharing food with others.

Memorial gathering will be held on Wednesday, June 17th 2026 from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. at Riverdale-on-Hudson Funeral Home, Inc., 6110 Riverdale Ave, Bronx, NY. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in his name to the New York Botanical Gardens or Wave Hill.
