Argentina A. Luna

June 15, 2026 Jeffrey Wiecek

Argentina Luna, 87 passed away on Monday June 15th, 2026.

Argentina was born in Santiago de Los Caballeros, Dominican Rebublic and is one of four siblings. Her parents were Rosa Efigenia Antonia  Lopez Luciano and Francisco Antonio Luciano Castillo. She departed to the city of Moca at 12yrs. old to live with extended family, for better educational opportunities. In Moca, she attended middle and high school and graduated with honors. She continued her education by attending  secretarial and business school, which led to a position  in the Credit and Savings Bank of Santiago.

She met the love of her life, German Luna Sr. during middle school, as he would pursue her on his bicycle while she was on her way to volunteer her time to teach illiterate adults in the community. They were eventually married on March 30th, 1964 and celebrated 52 yrs. of marriage until  German Sr.  passed away in 2016.

Argentina visited NYC and eventually moved with her husband to provide a better life for her family. As a recent immigrant with no command of English, she initially found work in factories. Later, she used her experience in the Dominican Republic to find work as a bank teller and then as a cashier manager in a supermarket. This led to a position as a bookkeeper and she ultimately administered a retail chain of six supermarkets for over 20 yrs., until her retirement.

Argentina was an avid reader and traveler who had a zest for life and adventure. She was often referred as energetic, lively and young at heart.  She enjoyed gathering and celebrating with loved ones, playing the slots at the casino, dancing, as well as watching a great action film.

Argentina’s beautiful life will be forever cherished in the lives of her family.  She is survived by her son German F. Luna, daughter Alice V. Luna-Tavares, her six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Reposing Friday, June 19th from 3:00 - 7:00 PM at Riverdale-on-Hudson Funeral Home, 6110 Riverdale Ave. A Mass of Christian Burial Saturday, June 20th at St. Elizabeth’s Church at 10:00 AM. Interment to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Bronx, NY.
