Garvan Keith Smith

May 27, 2025 Jeffrey Wiecek

With heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life lived fearlessly, we announce the passing of Garvan Smith, who left this world far too soon on May 27, 2025.

Garvan was a man in motion—constantly chasing the horizon, carving fresh powder, paddling off a waterfall or racing down wooded trails with a grin wide as the sky. Whether on a snowboard, kayak, surfboard, motorcycle, or simply his own two feet, he found joy in movement and freedom in the outdoors. He didn’t just experience life—he embraced it, arms wide and heart open. He shared that boundless energy with everyone lucky enough to know him. Garvan’s friendships were deep, his family ties unshakable. He loved fiercely and loyally. He had a contagious belly laugh - the kind that made you laugh too, even if you didn’t know the joke.

Garvan was the beloved husband of Impirika, adored dad of Seán and Hudson, loving son of Rose and Kevin, cherished brother of Wayne, Karl, Aoife, and Ian and  a much loved grandad of Frankie and Rosie.

Garvan will be forever loved and very sadly missed by his heartbroken wife, children, grandchildren, parents, sister, brothers, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family, neighbours and his large circle of friends.

He leaves behind not just memories, but stories—wild, hilarious, inspiring stories that will live on for years to come.

To know Garvan was to feel his light. He was a reminder that life is meant to be lived out loud, with laughter, sore muscles, and a full heart.

A wake will be held on Wednesday, June 4, from 4-7pm at Riverdale-on-Hudson Funeral Home, 6110 Riverdale Ave. Committal will be private.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Garvan’s memory to one of the following organizations:
