Philip J. Carroll

July 16, 2026 Jeffrey Wiecek

Philip J. Carroll died peacefully on July 16, 2026 at Calvary Hospital in the Bronx, NY he was 84 years old. Phil was born on November 16, 1941 in Ballinrink, Oldcastle, Co. Meath, Ireland to Michael and Teresa (nee Browne) Carroll.

His early years were spent as a steward on the MSC and Cunard Cruise Lines experiencing different cultures and languages. World travel was a passion and he enjoyed every adventure.

Upon arriving in the US, at the age of 30, Phil apprenticed as a carpenter in Baltimore, Maryland.  His appetite for new challenges took him to New York City where he excelled in the hospitality industry.

Starting as a waiter, Phil progressed through the ranks to become a well-respected restaurateur.  With his business partner, John Boyle, he went on to establish Parnell’s Pub and Restaurant in 1978 and Jameson’s Pub in 1987 in midtown Manhattan. Seeing the opportunity for growth on the Queens waterfront, and with a new business partner, Brian Porter, he opened the L.I.C. Bar and later the Gantry Bar and Kitchen in Long Island City.

Phil was SIMPLY THE BEST.  Loving, caring, humble, generous and always willing to offer a helping hand and encourage others to succeed.  He will be sorely missed.

A loving husband to Mary Conlan for 44 years, and a caring, attentive brother to sisters, Kathleen Cashman and Trudy Miller. Phil's younger sister, Gabrielle McDonald, predeceased him. Phil leaves behind nieces Ann, Elaine, Ruth and Hannah, and nephews Andrew, Ruairi, Eion and Willie. His sisters-in-law, Patricia and Eileen, will miss his humor, loving nature and generous spirit.

His Wake will be held on Tuesday, July 21, 2026 3:00 to 7:00 PM at Riverdale-on-Hudson Funeral Home, 6110 Riverdale Ave, Bronx, NY 10471. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am Wednesday, July 22, 2026 at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 3250 Arlington Ave, Bronx, NY 10463. Committal to be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Mercy Ships at www.mercyships.org.
