Ann Thorendahl (nee Feeney) was born on July 23, 1932 to Bridget (nee Scott) and Patrick Joseph Feeney in the Bronx, NY. They hailed from Culleens, County Sligo, Ireland. Ann often delighted people with the very happy stories of her childhood growing up with her sisters, Mary (d. 2023) and Catherine, as well as her brother Patrick. Ann was the mother of Christopher (Patricia) and Maryann (Alan). She was also the beloved grandmother of Christopher, Patrick, Marybeth (Brian), Pádraig (Fiancée Kate), and Mary Elizabeth, as well as the great-grandmother of Makenna, Molly, and Myles. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Ann will always be remembered for her enormous faith. There is no doubt that it shaped her into the incredible woman she was. She was often seen walking the steep hills of Riverdale to attend daily Mass. Not only that, but she also climbed those steep hills a second time on some days to attend Adoration. Anyone who was blessed to meet Ann marveled at her shining soul. Ann was also an extraordinary minister of the Eucharist. She brought the Eucharist to many sick and homebound parishioners. Not only did she bring them Communion, but she also provided a sense of care and compassion. Ann left the people she encountered, even during her last difficult years, with a sense of the very special person she was. Selfless is the best word to describe her. However, she will also be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor. She often regaled people with her delightfully witty stories at family parties, which will most likely be retold throughout the generations to come.
We are left with immense sorrow at her passing, but we know that she was more than ready to enter the embrace of our Lord. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam.
Reposing Tuesday, June 16th from 3:00 - 7:00 PM at Riverdale-on-Hudson Funeral Home, 6110 Riverdale Ave. A Mass of Christian Burial Wednesday, June 17th at St. Margaret of Cortona Church at 9:45 AM. Interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, NY.
