Kathleen (Kit) Lakes passed away on April 1, 2026, in Bronx, NY. Kit was born September 12, 1938, in Kilcolcan, Ballylongford, Tarbert, County Kerry, Ireland. She emigrated to New York in her early 20s and worked as a telephone operator in the city in the 1950s. She married Vincent Lakes (now deceased), and is survived by one son, Sean Lakes.
Kit was part of a large Irish family and was predeceased by brothers Joe Lynch, Stevie Lynch, John Lynch, and sisters Maggie McNamara and Mai O’Connor. In addition to her husband’s brother Billy Lakes and sisters Alice Lennon and Shelia Earl.
She is survived by two sisters, Sadie Finucane and Jeannie Murphy and sister-in-law, Kathleen Lynch. Kit is also survived by her husband brothers Sean Lakes & Tomas Lakes and sisters Kathleen O’Grady and Margaret Sullivan.
Auntie Kit, as she was fondly known, is survived by numerous nieces and nephews in Ireland and USA.
Kit always retained warm and detailed memories of her life in Ballylongford. Her heart always remained in Bally.
Reposing Tuesday, April 7th from 3:00pm - 7:00pm at Riverdale-on-Hudson Funeral Home, 6110 Riverdale Avenue, Bronx NY 10471. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday, April 8th at 9:45am at St. Margaret of Cortona Church, 6000 Riverdale Avenue, Bronx NY 10471. Interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, NY.
