Ada Luz "Chongui" Molina

March 29, 2026 Jeffrey Wiecek

Ada Luz "Chongui" Molina, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, March 29, 2026, with her loved ones at her side.

Born in Santa Isabel, Puerto Rico, to Isaias and Maximina on January 6, 1942, she was a devoted wife to her husband, Victor Jose, and loving mother to her four children, Marilyn, Vivian, Victor Jr., and Luis. She loved her four granddaughters and five grandsons and was graced with moments to meet her five great grandchildren. She was adored by her many "foster" children, including Nelson and the late, André.

Chongui arrived in New York City with her parents and siblings in 1953 and lived on the Upper West Side. The youngest of seven children, Chongui is survived by one brother, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Affectionately known as Titi Chongui to nieces and nephews, she welcomed everyone into her home with open arms. She enjoyed hosting family gatherings, loved cooking, dedicated time to preparing traditional holiday meals, including her delicious carrot cake. As a young girl, Chongui loved to dance Bomba and Plena, and continued to dance throughout her life.

After raising her children, she returned to the workforce at the NYS Department of Labor and subsequently retired from the NYS Department of Taxation & Finance in 1994. In her retirement, she dedicated her time to caring for her grandchildren, served as a community leader assisting others, and traveling to Puerto Rico. Her kindness freely touched so many individuals, leaving behind a legacy woven from small, steady acts. Whether known as Ada or Chongui, those who crossed her path carry a piece of her light. She was compassionate, sometimes witty, certainly feisty, yet benevolent to all.

Family & friends are cordially invited for visiting hours to be held at Riverdale-on-Hudson Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, from 2:00 pm - 8:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, April 9, 2026, at 10:00 am at the Ascension Church, 221 W 107th St, New York, NY 10025. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
