Frank J. Hanrahan, 80, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2026 with his family by his side.
Frank was born August 1, 1946, in the Kingsbridge section of the Bronx, the third child of Frank and Dolly Hanrahan. Frank attended Dewitt Clinton Highschool in the Bronx, though he caused a little too much trouble and relocated to St. Helena’s where he graduated from in 1964.
Frank had many jobs as a young man including delivery-man, cab driver and bus driver, before starting his career as an operational engineer at CBS in mid-town Manhattan. If a full time career wasn’t enough, he could always be found behind the bar at The Yankee Clipper/Hudsons in Riverdale serving up drinks and laughs to friends new and old.
In 1972, Frank married his wife Cindy and they settled down in New Jersey where their daughter Michelle was born a few years later. Both native New Yorkers, they decided to move back to New York in 1978 and relocated to Westchester County, where they raised their daughter until Cindy’s passing in 1999.
After the passing of his wife, he reconnected with his first love, Joan, and they married in 2004 after several years together. Frank spent the next 25 years back in the Bronx with Joan where they lived a life full of fun, family and friends. This union created a big family full of grandchildren and great-grandchildren that were adored by Frank, even if he called them silly names. Frank always told his grandchildren to go kick some butt on the soccer field and they even had their own special shout out to each other, ‘Eeyarkee!’ This was a very special bond.
Frank was a lifelong Yankees fan, as well as a New York Rangers fan. He recorded every game in case he missed it, and you were directed not to tell him what happened until he watched it. His favorite seat in the house was his blue ‘Ranger’s’ chair where he could be found for almost every game.
Frank was larger than life, a big Irish man, with a belly laugh and a joke for everyone. He was known as ‘Daddy H’ to all of his daughters friends. Whenever he stepped out of his big blue Cadillac and walked into a room full of friends, there was sure to be more laughter and good times ahead. ‘Frankie’ as he was called by his friends, was always the life of the party. He loved his friends and his family, and was never afraid to say I love you. He was the light of his daughter’s life, truly her superhero.
Frank was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather and great grandfather. He is survived by his wife Joan, daughter Michelle (partner Casey), his step-daughter Jeanna (partner George), his sister Patricia, nephews Paul and Peter, and his niece Katy. He is also survived by his grandsons Joshua and Sean as well as Alyssa, Zachary and Michael. Most recently was the addition of 2 great-grandsons Luca and Levi. He is also survived by a ton of friends that are considered family. Frank was predeceased by his mother and father, Frank and Dolly, his sister Dorothy, and his son Frank.
Visitiation will be held on Monday, October 26th, from 4:00 p.m to 7:00 p.m. at the Riverdale-on-Hudson Funeral Home, 6110 Riverdale Avenue, Bronx, New York. Committal will be private.
