Carmen Cuevas

March 18, 2025 Jeffrey Wiecek

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Carmen Cuevas (née Arocho), age 80, on March 18, 2025. Born to Ramon and Carmen on August 8, 1944, in Lares, Puerto Rico, Carmen led a life defined by love, family, and compassionate care. Carmen is survived by her daughters Carmen (John) and Melissa (Robert), her cherished grandchildren Ciaran, Dara, Robert, and Grayson, as well as many loving nieces and nephews. She joins her beloved husband Gilberto, who preceded her in death in 2024.

Known for her nurturing spirit, Carmen was a dedicated caregiver who maintained close bonds with her sisters throughout her life. Her warm presence and gentle nature touched everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Carmen and Gilberto’s love story began in their hometown of Lares, Puerto Rico, where they met in their youth before marrying in 1967. After Gilberto's service in the US Army from 1959 to 1961, they established their home in the Bronx, NY, where they raised their two daughters. Together, they built a foundation of strong family values and instilled in their daughters the importance of education and hard work, always encouraging them to pursue their dreams. Carmen found joy in family gatherings and in maintaining a loving home, creating a legacy of love that will endure through generations.

A service honoring the life of Carmen will be held at Riverdale-on-Hudson Funeral Home Inc., 6110 Riverdale Avenue, Bronx, NY 10471 on Monday, March 24th, 2025 from 3:00 to 7:00 pm. Interment 1 pm Tuesday at Woodlawn Cemetery.
