Reverend Aida Viera

February 23, 2025 Jeffrey Wiecek

Aida Margarita Fontanez was born in Caguas Puerto Rico on March 6, 1930. She was the oldest of six siblings and since her dad was very sickly, she had to forego schooling in order to take care of her younger siblings. She and her husband David Viera knew each other as children, and before her father passed away, he called her in to tell her he approved of that young man because he was a very serious young man and a very hard worker.  Soon after, they were married and had six children together, Daniel, Andres David, Daisy, Diana, Abraham and Deborah. Daniel passed away in her arms as an infant as a result of food poisoning. David and Aida held hands all through their married life as young lovers do, until the day he passed away in 2011. She was an ordained minister, as was David, and together they established churches in Gary Indiana, Brooklyn, Manhattan, the Bronx, and two churches in the Dominican Republic. She was a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother. Her greatest joy however came from leading souls to Christ and talking about His marvelous works. She and David were married for 63 years before his passing and two days before she passed, her congregation in the Bronx celebrated their 61st anniversary which unfortunately was the first and only time she was not present to enjoy. She had the singing voice of an angel and was recognized for many times throughout the years. Her joy, faith, love and dedication to the Lord, the church and her family is instilled in every one of her congregants and because of this her legacy will live on.

Visitation will be Friday, February 28th, from 4 - 8pm at Riverdale-on-Hudson Funeral Home, 6110 Riverdale Avenue, Bronx, NY.  Funeral Services will be held Saturday, March 1st at 9:30am at Riverdale-on-Hudson. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery, Hastings-on-Hudson, NY.
