Geraldine Lane Murphy, age 79, passed away peacefully surrounded by immediate family on November 18, 2025, in Hyde Park, New York. Gerri grew up in the South Bronx as a member of Saint Jerome‘s Parish along with seven brothers and sisters. The Bronx was always considered a special place to Gerri as she was an avid fan of the New York Yankees, and the Bronx was the place where she met the love of her life, her husband, Edward. Ed and Gerri happily raised two children and they recently celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary. Most recently they lived in Pleasant Valley, New York.
Gerri built a 33 year career with Avis Rent-A-Car, where she begin as a rental sales agent and Rose to the position of fleet distribution manager. Gerri was known for her driven personality to get the job done in an industry dealing with high volume and arduous tasks.
Gerri was pre-deceased by her caring mother, Catherine “Kitty” Lane. Gerri also mourned the loss of her siblings Richard, Joan, Timothy, Patrick, John, and her grandson, Matthew Murphy. She is survived by her beloved husband, Edward and her loving children, Edward (Debra) and Kathleen (Beau) and siblings, Priscilla and James. Her legacy continues through her five precious grandchildren, Ryan, Kaleigh, Emily, Riley and Braden, who brought her immense pride and joy. Her passionate spirit will be missed by numerous nieces and nephews.
Gerri found great happiness in simple pleasures, especially birdwatching and enjoying a lifelong goal of retirement life in Florida with her devoted husband, Ed. Gerri is well known for spearheading both an annual Lane family reunion and Murphy family Fourth of July fireworks celebration.
May her memory bring comfort to those who knew her and inspire all who were fortunate enough to share in her remarkable life.
Reposing will be held on Friday, November 21st, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Riverdale-on-Hudson Funeral Home, 6110 Riverdale Ave, Bronx, NY 10471. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, November 22nd at 9:45 AM at St. Margaret of Cortona Church 6000 Riverdale Avenue, Bronx, NY 10471. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, NY.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Gerri’s honor may be made to Memorial Sloan Kettering.
