Eugene Anthony Cannataro, born July 18, 1953, to Phyllis and Frank Cannataro, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Saturday, November 15, 2025.
Gene is survived by his devoted wife and soulmate of 50 wonderful years, Claudia Cannataro, the love of his life. He is also survived by his children Chris, Cory (husband Joe Lee), and Kate, who were his pride and joy. Gene leaves behind his loving brothers Louis Cannataro (wife Colette Cannataro) and Frank Cannataro (wife Terry Cannataro), as well as many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family members, and lifelong friends.
Gene was known for his kindness, generosity, sharp wit, and quick sense of humor. No matter the circumstance, he always had a joke, a smile, or a perfectly timed comment that lifted everyone’s spirits. His loyalty to his family and friends was unwavering, and his willingness to help anyone—no questions asked—defined who he was. If you needed him, he was always there.
Gene dedicated more than 40 years to ABC, beginning in the mailroom and rising to become Director of Facility Management. Throughout that time, he built countless friendships and professional relationships. He gave people opportunities, advocated fiercely for his team, and championed the careers of those he believed in. Whether he was helping someone one-on-one or fighting for the best contract for the entire department, Gene always put others first. Even after retirement and during his battle with Alzheimer’s, he continued offering guidance and encouragement to anyone who sought his advice.
Eugene will be deeply missed and forever remembered for the love he shared and the lives he touched.
Reposing will be held on Wednesday, November 19th, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Riverdale-on-Hudson Funeral Home, 6110 Riverdale Ave, Bronx, NY 10471.
