Carol Jean Kennedy

August 8, 2024 Jeffrey Wiecek

Carol Jean Kennedy, born on August 16, 1944, passed into eternal life on August 8, 2024, just eight days shy of her 80th birthday.  Devoted wife to Tom, who predeceased her in 2013, and loving mother to Christine (Eric) Child and Jill (Joe) Duggan. She loved her 5 grandchildren, Jack, Dominic, Katie, Declan, and Ellie, more than words can say.

Carol was born in Yonkers to Howard and Irene (Roos) Oliver. She met Tom while they both worked at United Parcel Service and they wed in April, 1966. She and Tom settled in the Bronx and shared a 47 year marriage of love and laughter.

After spending several years as a stay-at-home mother while her children were young, Carol began a 40 year career as a bookkeeper at Riverdale Neighborhood House. It was through RNH that she developed some of her closest and most enduring friendships.

Carol was an avid traveler and enjoyed countless trips with her family and friends.  In addition to visiting all 50 states, she travelled throughout Europe, Central America, and Asia, always seeking out the next adventure.  She was a lifelong Mets fan and cheered her "Metsies" on through good seasons and bad.  Her devotion to the team is evidenced by a commemorative brick on Citi Field's Fan Walk. Her thoughtfulness, kindness, and sense of humor will be dearly missed by all.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, August 13, from 4-8pm at Riverdale-on-Hudson Funeral Home, 6110 Riverdale Avenue, Bronx, NY. Mass of Christian Burial will take place Wednesday, August 14, at 9:45 am, at St. Margaret of Cortona Catholic Church, 6000 Riverdale Avenue, Bronx, NY. Entombment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, NY. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to Paws Crossed Animal Rescue at www.pawscrossedny.org.
