Angel Dario Nieves

May 28, 2024 Jeffrey Wiecek

Angel Dario Nieves entered eternal rest on May 28, 2024. He was born on September 21, 1938 in Rincon, Puerto Rico. He was the child of Antonio Nieves and Gloria Rivera and the brother of Toñe, Nilda, Reyin, Bienvenida, Barabarita, Paco, Benjamin, and Heriberto. He migrated to Manhattan in 1957 and in 1959 married Blanca Nieves (née. Vega). Together they enjoyed a loving and fruitful marriage of 58 years. In his professional life, he was a long-time factory worker. Angel will forever be remembered for his devotion to his family, passion for playing the lottery, tendency to tell the best “grandpa jokes,” and love of afternoon naps, virgin piña coladas, and prank videos. His example taught us all to work hard but never take life too seriously and to always take the time to appreciate the moment. He is survived by his son, Angel, daughter-in-law, Georgina, and granddaughters Georgina, Angela, and Cristina, his siblings Nidi, Reyin, and Paco, and his many nieces and nephews who he loved very much.

The viewing will be held at the Riverdale-on-Hudson Funeral Home on Sunday, June 2nd from 2 until 6 PM. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Margaret of Cortona Church on Monday, June 3rd at 9:45 AM. Interment to follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in White Plains, NY.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Angel’s longtime oncologist, Dr. Daniel Petrylak, so that he may continue his groundbreaking research. More information on Dr. Petrylak can be found at this link: https://medicine.yale.edu/profile/daniel-petrylak/. Checks may be made payable to Yale University with Dr. Petrylak’s research account in the memo and mailed to:

Calvary en White Plains, New York.
