Patrick “Joe” Cunney

February 14, 2024 Jeffrey Wiecek

Patrick “Joe” Cunney, passed away peacefully on Wednesday February 14, 2024 at the age of 85, lovingly surrounded by his wife of 60 years, Anne M. Cunney, his children and grandchildren. He moved on peacefully and we are all eternally grateful for that eventuality.

“Joe’’ Cunney child of Margaret and John Cunney immigrated from Sligo, Ireland in 1959. Over the years, before and after his immigration, he was joined by his amazing brothers, sisters, and Mother: Michael, Marion, John Junior, Peggy, Tom, Beatrice and his Mother Margert.

For over 40 years, Joe worked for AJ Contracting, a major construction concern, out of the Chrysler Building, in Manhattan. Through the years, he oversaw major projects, including the David Polk Building, Chelsea Piers and countless other ventures. Joe lived his American Dream carving it out among the concrete skyscraper canyons of New York City.

Joe and his wife, Anne purchased their home in 1973 in the Riverdale section of the Bronx. Over the years, he renovated his home and built a family. The couple have five children: John (Marcia), Joseph (Monica), Joanne, Donald and Patricia. They also had three beautiful granddaughters: Andrea, Jessica, and Kathleen.

Joe left an indelible mark on the world and Joe Cunney will not be forgotten.

Visitation will be held Wednesday February 21, 2024 from 3:00 pm – 7:00 pm at Riverdale-on-Hudson Funeral Home, 6110 Riverdale Avenue, Bronx, NY 10471.

Mass of Christian burial will be held Thursday February 22, 2024 at 9:45 am at St. Margaret of Cortona Church, 6000 Riverdale Avenue, Bronx, NY 10471 followed by interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
