Charles D. Conwell

September 29, 2024 Jeffrey Wiecek

Charles D. Conwell (Charlie), beloved father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, passed away on September 29, 2024.

Born on April 19, 1938 in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania to Charles and Eve (Shento) Conwell and is the oldest of four boys; Charlie, Leo, Danny and Jimmy.

Charlie was raised on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.  He and his  family were proud parishioners of the Holy Name Church and a graduate of the Holy Name School in NYC.  It was there he would meet his lifelong friends. He spent many years raising his family in Riverdale and Thornwood, NY.  He spent the last 30 + years living in the Throggs Neck section of the Bronx.  He was always well liked by everyone, had many friends and was always ready with a joke.

He loved traveling to Lake George, Jersey Shore, Disney World and taking cruises to Bermuda and many Caribbean Islands.

Charlie was honorably discharged from the Navy Reserves in 1963 and  joined the New York City Police Department in 1966.  He began his career in the 52nd Precinct in the Bronx and retired from the 9th Precinct in Lower Manhattan.  After his retirement from the NYPD he would go on to work for the Daily News and security for various jewelers in the Diamond District on W. 47th Street in Manhattan.

Charlie is survived by his brother Leo, sister-in-law’s Lizzy and Lorretta, his four children and their spouses, Christine (Tim), Chuck (Angela), Brian (Linda) and Susie (Chris).  He also is the proud Grandpa of 10 Grandchildren; Meghan, Timmy, Jenna, Patrick, Brendan, Declan, Christopher, Reagan, Mason and Riley and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents and brothers Danny and Jimmy Conwell.

Reposing will be held on Friday, October 4, from 4:00 – 7:00 pm. at Riverdale-on-Hudson Funeral Home, 6110 Riverdale Avenue, Bronx, New York.  The Funeral mass will be held Saturday at 9:45 am at St. Margaret of Cortona Church, 6000 Riverdale Avenue, Bronx New York.  Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, New York.
