Bernadette Sarah Marie Scanlon(maiden Name Coleman), age 78, died on October 26, 2022 at Montefiore Hospital, after a long illness.
Bernadette was born on April 23, 1944 in the Bronx, New York. She was preceded in death by her parents, Christopher and Emma Coleman and her sister Rosemary Hagerty. She is survived by her sons and daughters in law Robert and Katherine Scanlon, John Scanlon and Lisa Rivas, and sisters Lucille Courtney, Elizabeth Benz, and Eileen Engelberg.
Bernadette will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren, Chance, Aedan, Jesse, Nancy, Lisa and Bobby, and her nephews and nieces, Michael Hagerty, Laura Glowacki, Susan McNamee, Lisa Morales, Christina Bufalini, and Erwin Benz.
Bernadette graduated from the St. Catharine Academy in 1962 and earned her nursing degree at Mount Vernon Nursing School graduating in 1965 and attaining the level of Registered Nurse. Bernadette worked as a nurse in many different settings including Montefiore Medical Center and as a school nurse in the New York City Public School System. Throughout her career, Bernadette was a nurse caregiver committed to helping all of her patients. She loved to travel and enjoyed get togethers with her entire extended family. She was particularly devoted to her sisters (the five flowers).
Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 am on Monday October 31, 2022 at Holy Cross Church (Middletown, NY). Interment Holy Name of Jesus Cemetery, Otisville New York.
