May 26, 2021 Jeffrey Wiecek
JamesMcCarthy.jpg

James was born in County Cork Ireland and was a loving son to Denis and Catherine (Karty) McCarthy. Brother to Maureen, Donal (by whom he was predeceased) and Denis (Denny). Brother in law to Pat and Nora and a cherished uncle of Colm, Catherine, Marylou, Elaine, Katie, Donal, Catriona, David and Niamh and was a proud grand uncle to his seventeen grand nieces and nephews and beloved cousin to many.

With bravery and an adventurous spirit he immigrated to New York at the young age of eighteen and proudly served his new country in the United States Army. He was a gifted singer and musician who generously shared his time and talent by giving accordion concerts to the delight of members of the local Senior Centers.

James, well known for his great sense of humor, was a true and loyal friend to many who were blessed with his friendship,

A proud son of County Cork he was active in the Cork Association and will be remembered for his love of a good Ceili and the many local St. Patrick's Day musical celebrations in New York City. He visited his beloved West Cork every year and always thoroughly enjoyed his time spent there with family and treasured friends and neighbors.

James was a good man of great faith and a devoted Catholic active in all the parishes in which he lived. He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by many.

The wake will be held on Tuesday, June 1st 2021 from 4-7 pm at Riverdale-on-Hudson Funeral Home, 6110 Riverdale Avenue, Bronx NY. Funeral mass will be held Wednesday 9:45 am at St. Margaret of Cortona Church in Riverdale. Committal private.
