Gerald (“Jerry”) Smith, Sr.

May 25, 2021 Jeffrey Wiecek
Gerald Smith Photo.jpg

passed away peacefully on May 25, 2021. Born on December 5, 1944 in Inwood, Jerry attended Rice High School and, with the exception of College and military service, never strayed too far from his childhood neighborhood, ultimately settling in Riverdale with his beloved wife Cathy to raise their family. Anyone who knew Jerry, either as a friend, coworker, or neighbor, knew him to be a soft-spoken and caring person who loved a good book and watching the Yankees and, for the last eight years, loved above all else being with his grandsons who called him “Pops.” Jerry is survived by his wife of over 52 years Cathy (nee Keneally), his son Gerald, Jr., his beloved daughter-in-law Isabelle, his grandsons James and Alexander, his brother Thomas and his sister-in-law Linda, and his sister Margaret. He was pre-deceased by his son James and his sister Eileen. Jerry’s life will be celebrated by family at a mass of Christian burial at St. Pius X Church, 91 Secor Road Scarsdale NY on Saturday, May 29, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. with a private commitment to follow. In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation in Jerry’s name to the Boomer Esiason Foundation - https://www.esiason.org.
