Alex Molina

August 7, 2020 Jeffrey Wiecek
Alex-Malina.jpg

Alex was born and raised in the Bronx, NY by his parents, Jose Alejandro and Maria Isabel, with his brothers Jose and Thomas.  He graduated from James Monroe High School in 1969.  Alex enjoyed a short, but illustrious career as a short stop on his high school baseball team.  During his graduating year, he would play an integral role in their winning against DeWitt Clinton High School during the “All City Championship Game”.  This would be the closest he would come to being a NY Yankee –a team he loved and followed throughout his life.  Although his many phone calls to Brian Cashman would go unanswered, he expressed his management opinions whenever he had the chance.

In 1972 Alex married his wife Gloria and enrolled in Dutchess Community College, graduating with an Associates Degree in Police Science in 1975.  His proudest professional moment came in 1981 when he was called to serve as a New York City Correction Officer.   He began his 25-year career in Riker’s Island and finished in Vernon C. Bain Center in the Bronx.

During this time, he and Gloria purchased their first home  -- a home that would become the place for summer barbecues, karaoke contests and pool parties.  He opened his door to everyone and loved sharing anything he had for a friend.

The greatest joy of his life was his family.  He coined the acronym JAGA, representing Jennifer-Alex-Gloria-Alex.  He took pride in his children, their accomplishments and the role he played in their successes.  Alex loved his grandchildren beyond measure and would be the first to offer his love, support and wallet to their wishes.

His story would not be complete without expressing his love for his wife, Gloria.  Married at the tender age of 21 and 18, Alex and Gloria spent almost 50 years together. Over these 50 years, there would be love, fights, money worries and dancing.  More than anything, there were laughs! Alex would make Gloria laugh every day, even when they were fighting! He would always find a way to squeeze in a joke that would break the ice and lead to dancing in the kitchen. Their marriage, friendship and true partnership with each other is Alex’s greatest accomplishment.

Alex is survived by his wife Gloria, his son Alexander, daughter-in-law Elaine and their children Austin, Kayleeand Meagan; and his beautiful daughter Jennifer, son-in-law Anthony Del Valle and precious puppy Daisy.

“Take care, comb your hair!

Reposing Tuesday from 3 – 6 pm at Riverdale-on-Hudson Funeral Home, 6110 Riverdale Avenue, Bronx, NY.  Mass of Christian Burial 9:45 am Wednesday, August 12th at St. Margaret of Cortona Church.  Committal private.
