Walter A. Scannell died peacefully on August 2, 2018 at The Methodist Home for Nursing and Rehabilitation after a long and brave fight with many medical issues. He was 83. Walter was born on January 17, 1935 in the Bronx NY to Victor and Elizabeth Scannell. He proudly graduated with honors with a Bachelors degree in Economics from Fordham University in 1956. He married the love of his life, Margherita Mingone January 18, 1958. Walter was a successful executive in various areas of the business world then ultimately retired from the New York State Department of Transportation where he worked for 25 years as an engineer.
Walter and Marge were married for 60 wonderful years and had a love affair for the ages. They had a passion for food, music and the arts. He and Marge were patrons of the Metropolitan Opera and held a subscription for the past 30 years. They also sang together in the Rockland County Choral Society for 20 years and the Lehman College Community Chorus for many years. He is survived by his wife Margherita, his brother-in-law Mario and wife Jan and sister-in-law Gloria. He is also survived by 5 nieces and nephews, 10 great nieces and nephews and 2 great, great grand nieces and nephews who all loved him dearly.
A wake will be held Saturday August 4, 2018 from 7-9 pm and Sunday August 5, 2018 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at Riverdale-on-Hudson Funeral Home, 6110 Riverdale Avenue, Bronx NY. A mass of Christian burial will take place on 9:45 am Monday August 6, 2018 at St. Margaret of Cortona Church in Riverdale NY. Interment Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
