Beatrice Mary Kackmann

October 2, 2018 Jeffrey Wiecek

Beatrice Mary Kackmann, mother and sister, passed away on October 2nd, 2018. She was predeceased by her husband of 46 years, Fred Kackmann, who passed away on August 11th, 2018.  Beatrice was born and raised in the Washington Heights community of New York City.  Her education included Incarnation School, Mother Cabrini High School ('56), Marymount Manhattan College ('60) and masters degrees from Hunter College.

The child of Irish immigrants, Ellen and Francis McMorrow, Beatrice passionately reveled in and loved New York City for all of its cultural offerings and diversity, which fed her incessant curiosity about the world and everything in it.  Her career was devoted to education, first as a teacher and then as a guidance counselor for the NYC Board of Education.  She had a wicked and keen sense of humor, a deep generosity of spirit, exhibited true grace, felt a deep commitment to give back to others less fortunate, and her love of life was contagious.  An avid reader, supporter of the arts and intrepid explorer of the globe, Beatrice constantly demonstrated childlike wonder about the world, which was a true inspiration to all those who were fortunate enough to have known her.  Beatrice is survived by her devoted daughter, Ellen; and her brother, Michael.

There were countless organizations and issues about which Beatrice was passionate and which she supported.  In lieu of flowers, Beatrice's family asks that you consider making a donation to one of the following organizations: Catholic Relief Services (www.crs.org), the ASPCA (www.aspca.org), Turtle Valley Donkey Refuge (www.turtlevalleydonkeyrefuge.com), The Gorilla Organization (www.gorillas.org) or Marymount Manhattan College (www.mmm.edu/donate), The Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation (www.cholangiocarcinoma.org).

A wake will be held for both Beatrice and Fred on Friday October 5th from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at Riverdale-on-Hudson Funeral Home, 6110 Riverdale Avenue, Bronx NY. Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 am Saturday October 6th at Church of the Incarnation, W 175th Street at Saint Nicholas Avenue, NYC. Interment Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne NY.
