James (Jimmy) Thomas Flynn age 88 of the Bronx, NY died peacefully on Feb 20, 2017 surrounded by his loving daughters while listening to the very music he was when he met his future wife at an Irish dance in NYC some 70 years prior. He was born in Belfast, Ireland on Dec 27, 1928 toThomas and Kathleen (Taylor) Flynn. Like many he emigrated to the U.S. via boat and after landing in NY met Bridget (Bridie) Mary O'Neill and they wed at St Joseph's Church (NYC) on Aug 16, 1950. They had four beautiful daughters together: Kathleen McCarroll (Mike) deceased, Patricia Lepore (Arthur), Barbara Keough (Patrick), and Theresa M Flynn. Loving grandfather to Patrick, Danny & Ryan McCarroll and Sammy & Joseph
Lepore as well as 7 great grandchildren: Kathleen, Burt, Shane, Liam, Max, AJ & Michael. He had two siblings: Susan (deceased) and Willie who currently resides in England. Jimmy honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and upon returning made his living as a butcher. Although he was predeceased by his loving wife Bridie his greatest memories were of his times out on Rockaway Beach with her and his daughters. With coolers and bags in tow they'd take numerous subways & buses from Washington Heights to get there but whether it was for the day or when possible a week in a cottage it was always a great time. In his latter years he became pretty content watching his Late Show movies, PGA golf, and of course listening to his Irish music (A Thousand Welcomes) on WFUV. He was a tough old Irishman and although he may not have left with the most toys the memories he
bestowed upon us are priceless! He will be greatly missed and never forgotten. Reposing Friday 4-8 pm at Riverdale-on-Hudson Funeral Home, 6110 Riverdale Ave., Bx. Mass of Christian Burial Saturday 9:45 am at St. Margaret of Cortona Church. Interment Westwood Cemetery.
