Nancy Gallanty

August 24, 2026 Jeffrey Wiecek

Nancy Dudar Gallanty

1935 –2026

Nancy Dudar Gallanty, 91, passed away peacefully on August 24, 2026, just two months after the passing of her beloved husband of 66 years, Robert Gallanty. Those who knew Nancy will remember her as a woman of warmth, discipline, and quiet strength — a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who lived a full and active life right up to the end.

Nancy was raised in Island Park, Long Island, and went on to attend Hofstra University. As a young woman, she moved to New York City with two close high school friends, embarking on the independent city life that would shape so much of who she became. It was there that she met Robert Gallanty, and the two were married for 66 years — a partnership that carried them through raising a family, several moves, and a lifetime of shared memories.

Nancy and Robert raised their children in New York City before relocating to Virginia Beach and later returned to New York City when Robert retired. Throughout these years, Nancy built a career as an office manager and, for more than 25 years, taught exercise classes at YMCAs in both New York City and Virginia Beach — a fitting reflection of her own lifelong commitment to staying active. An avid and dedicated exerciser, she proudly completed the New York City Marathon, a testament to her determination and discipline.

Beyond her professional life, Nancy found deep joy in reading, knitting, and the theatre. She approached each of her interests with the same energy and enthusiasm she brought to everything in her life.

Nancy is survived by her daughter, Julie, and her son, Jeff, and by her six grandchildren: Jordana Rogers, Allegra Rogers, Katelyn Gallanty, Miranda Rogers, Christopher Gallanty, and Matt (Courtney). She was predeceased by her husband, Robert Gallanty, and by her sister, Helen Dudar Goldman.

Nancy's life was one of devotion — to her marriage, her family, and her own well-being. She will be remembered for her strength, her independence, and the example she set for staying active and engaged at every stage of life. She leaves behind a legacy of love that will carry on through her children and grandchildren.

A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, August 29th, from noon to 3:00 PM, at Riverdale on the Hudson.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Nancy's memory to the Hudson River Museum in Yonkers or Wave Hill in the Bronx.
