Long-time Riverdale resident Gisella Greco (nee Sicilia) passed away peacefully on July 25, 2026, in the home where she had lived since 1962 as a devoted wife, loving mother, and doting Nonna. She was just two months shy of her 94th birthday.
Gisella was born in 1932 in Rende, Italy, to her parents, Elios and Ernestina Sicilia. In 1960, at the age of 27, she made the long journey by ship to America. Upon arriving in New York, and on her first day in America, she met her future husband, Armando Greco. She continued her journey in America to briefly live in Chicago and work as a seamstress and to join her brother, Giovanni, who was already living there. She returned to Riverdale, New York in 1962 when she married her devoted and hard-working husband, Armando, who predeceased her in 1997.
She leaves behind her two children, Robert (Domenica) and Linda; her three grandchildren, Robert, Frank, and Giuliana; her siblings, Giovanni, Ettore (Vera), and Rosalinda; and many nieces and nephews.
Gisella will be remembered for her strong personality and the way she could always make those around her laugh. She was also known for her amazing cooking, especially her lasagna and meatballs, which were favorites among her family and friends. She was bright, loving, and truly one of a kind. Her family meant everything to her, and she meant just as much to them. She will be deeply missed and remembered by everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
Those we love never truly leave us. Gisella will live on through the love, memories, and family she leaves behind.
Reposing will be held on Wednesday, July 29th from 3:00 PM - 8:00 PM Riverdale-on-Hudson Funeral Home, 6110 Riverdale Ave. A Mass of Christian Burial Thursday, July 30th at St. Margaret of Cortona Church at 9:45 AM. Entombment to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Bronx, NY.
