Ida Rosado Eckert left this earth on June 5, 2026. She was 95 years old. Born in Washington Heights, NYC to Puerto Rican parents, who arrived here in the mid-1920’s. She was one of three children and second born to Rosalina Lopez De Victoria Rosado and Victor Rosado. She married Thomas Charles Eckert in August of 1951. She was the niece of Juan Antonio Rosado, renowned Puerto Rican artist.
Ida had two children: Roxanne Eckert Cardona and Richard Charles Eckert and one grandchild Thomas Richard Eckert, who together with his wife Koli had two sons: Adyaan and Liam Eckert.
Ida had many secretarial jobs before she found her passion for teaching. She taught children whose first language was Spanish for 23 years. She loved singing especially opera and sang in Christ Church Riverdale choir for about thirty-three years. She earned her BBA from Baruch College, then completed several years of graduate study at City College in bilingual education.
After our father passed in 2009, she returned to Hunter College and took classes. She studied Spanish, French and joined their choir. She performed on the college stage for many years.
What we loved most was her compassion, generosity and kindness. Whenever we spoke or visited, laughter followed. We will miss her sense of humor.
Rest in peace, beautiful mother.
