Monica (nee Faughnan) McAllister, 87, of Bronx, NY, passed away on Monday, May 11, 2026 under the supportive care of Calvary Hospital. Monica was born February 2, 1939 and raised in Fearnaught, Carrick-on-Shannon, County Leitrim, Ireland. Daughter of the late Thomas and the late Roseann (nee Clyne) Faughnan. Predeceased by her beloved aunt, Bridie Clyne, and brothers, Michael John Faughnan (her fraternal twin) and T.P. (Thomas Patrick) Faughnan.
Beloved wife of the late Edmund J. McAllister and devoted mother of Eileen (Tom), of Monroe, NY; Brian, of Tucson, Arizona; John (Veronica), of New Fairfield, CT; and Rose (Brian), of Pearl River, NY. She is survived by her 11 cherished grandchildren: Brian Jr., Alexandra, Lauren, Caleigh, Jenna, Finn, Ciara, Ronan, Faith, Shannon and Emily. She will be missed by her dear sister-in-laws (Maura, Fiona and Frances), her extended family of brothers-in-law (Kevin, Sean and Vincent), in Ballynahinch, County Down and loving nieces and nephews from County Leitrim and County Down, including Nuala (Kenny) McBrien and their children (Fionnuala, Conall, Kenneth and Ciara) of Middle Village, NY.
Monica emigrated to New York City in 1960. She met her future husband, Edmund, at the Jaegar House, a weekend dance hall on Lexington and 85th Street, in 1962. They married in 1964 and settled in the Bronx where they raised their four children. She worked as a CNA at the Jewish Home and Hospital for the Aged on Kingsbridge Road, Bronx, NY for 25 years until her retirement in August 2001.
As the family matriarch, she was a central figure in the lives of her family and a loyal and caring friend to many others. Monica’s 87 years were truly a testament to her tenacity, strong will and sense of humor. Her family and friends take comfort in knowing that she is now at peace in a better place with all those who have died and gone before her.
Memorial wake will be held on Wednesday, May 20 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Riverdale-on-Hudson Funeral Home, Inc., 6110 Riverdale Ave, Bronx, NY.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, May 21 at 9:45 a.m. at St. Margaret of Cortona Church, 6000 Riverdale Avenue, Bronx, NY. Committal will be private.
