Glenda Rae Reed, 74, of Riverdale, New York, passed away on April 20.
Glenda was a devoted mother, sister, and educator who dedicated her life to teaching in the New York City public school system. She cared deeply about her students and took pride in the impact she made through her work.
She is survived by her son, Michael Hauer; her sisters, Terry Miller and Brenda Van Vlymen; her brothers-in-law, Jack Miller and Bryan Van Vlymen; her niece, Carrie VanVelse; and extended family and friends who will miss her dearly.
Glenda found joy in life’s simple and meaningful routines, including spending quiet Sunday mornings reading The New York Times. She loved to travel and experience new places, and was someone people turned to when they needed help, always willing to lend a hand—whether that meant caring for someone’s pets or simply being there when it mattered. She volunteered as a baby cuddler in the NICU, offering comfort to newborns in need, and also spent time helping children learn to read through the Boys & Girls Club. She loved spending time with her son’s pets, Nala and Moyo, and was proud to be Nala’s favorite person.
Glenda will be remembered for her kindness, her big smile, her steady presence, and the lasting impression she left on all who knew her. She will be deeply missed.
Memorial wake will be held on Saturday, April 25th, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Riverdale-on-Hudson Funeral Home, 6110 Riverdale Avenue, Bronx, New York 10471. Committal private.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Glenda’s honor may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
