Reverend Harry J. Burke

Reverend Harry J. Burke, beloved brother, uncle, great uncle, and friend passed away March 24, 2026 in Riverdale, New York.

Father Burke was born in New York City on September 8, 1937 to Henry C Burke and Mary Jane (Cawley) Burke. He grew up in New York City and attended Regis High School.  He then attended St. Joseph’s Seminary and was ordained as a priest in 1963.

Father Burke spent over 40 years at Cardinal Hayes High School in the Bronx as a priest, educator, and counselor.

He was an avid New York Yankees and Giants fan.

Father Burke was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Mary Burke Hartley.

He is survived by nephews James Hartley and John Hartley (Cindy), niece Susan Wright (John), grandnephews Nicholas Hartley (Tori), Miles Hartley, Luke Wright, and Brian Wright, and grandnieces Avery Hartley, Maia Hartley, Sarah Wright and Grace Wright.

He will be remembered for his intellect, perseverance, kindness, and devotion to God and his family.

Reposing Monday, March 30th, from 9:00 AM - 10 AM at the St. John Vianney Clergy Residence Chapel, 5655 Arlington Ave, Bronx, NY. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 AM. Interment to follow at St. Raymond’s Cemetery, Bronx, NY.
