Patrick S. Joyce

September 8, 2025 Jeffrey Wiecek

Patrick Steven Joyce, Sr., age 86, passed away peacefully on September 8, 2025, in Breezy Point, New York. Born on November 7, 1938, in Clifden, County Galway, Ireland, after a short stop in Galway City Pat immigrated to New York City where he would meet the love of his life, his wife Kathleen. After marrying they would make the neighborhood of Riverdale in the Bronx their  home for 46 years and happily raise their six children there.  Most recently they  lived in the seaside community of Breezy Point.

Pat built a remarkable 42-year career with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), where he began as a bus cleaner and rose through the ranks to retire as Director of Safety. A proud member of TWU Local 100, he was deeply respected by colleagues for his unwavering work ethic and friendship to his coworkers .

He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Kathleen, and their son, Patrick Jr. Pat also mourned the loss of his siblings Peter, Martin, Mary, John, and Vincent. He is survived by his devoted sister, Dymphna, and his loving children: Martin (Kristin), Deborah (Shamus), Peter (Dawn), Julianne (Matthew), Katie (Lenny)and daughter-in-law Tara. His legacy continues through his nineteen cherished grandchildren, who brought him immense pride and joy. His kind and gentle spirit will be missed as well by his numerous nieces and nephews, both in the US and Ireland.

Pat found great happiness in life’s simple pleasures—especially basking in the sun at Breezy Point in Queens or on Marco Island in Florida. These places became havens where he could relax and enjoy time with those friends and family he loved most.

A true Irish character with a magnetic presence, Pat was known for his glorious shock of white hair, radiant smile, ever-present kindness, and unforgettable dancing. His warmth left an indelible mark on all who knew him. He will be remembered with immeasurable affection by his children, in-laws, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and countless others whose lives he touched.

May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to share in his remarkable life.

Reposing Friday, September 12th from 3 - 8 pm at Riverdale-on-Hudson Funeral Home, 6110 Riverdale Avenue, Bronx NY. Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, September 13th at 9:45 am at St. Barnabas Catholic Church, 409 E 241st St, Bronx, NY 10470.
