With heartfelt sorrow, we announce the passing of Ayesha A. Karim on July 6, 2025, at the age of 85. Ayesha was a cherished mother, doting grandmother, and loyal friend, whose spirit of warmth and resilience touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
Born on September 26, 1939, in Kolkata, India, Ayesha was a world traveller from a young age. She attended boarding schools in India and then England, taking school trips throughout Europe. Ayesha married S.A. Karim, who was in the diplomatic service, which allowed her to continue her travels. She had three sons, each born in a different country, before settling in New York to raise her family. She built a life grounded in love, community, and tradition. She was the devoted mother of Irshad Karim, Shahid Karim, and Hasan Karim, and the proud grandmother to four grandchildren, Victoria, William, Asha, and Paul and one great-grandson, Jamie.
Ayesha had a remarkable zest for life. She loved spending time with friends and family, often gathering for lively conversations filled with laughter and stories. She found joy in watching police TV shows—always captivated by the sense of justice—and relished opportunities to travel and explore new places, creating lasting memories along the way.
Her strength, humor, and grace were ever-present, and even in her final years, Ayesha remained a steady presence in the lives of her loved ones. Her wisdom, kindness, and unwavering love will continue to guide those she leaves behind.
A gathering will be held on Wednesday, July 9th at 9:30 am. Services to follow at 10 am at Riverdale-on-Hudson Funeral Home. Ayesha will be buried with her deceased husband, to whom she was married 49 years before his passing, at Ferncliff Cemetery in Hartsdale, NY.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Ayesha’s memory to Alzheimers' Association
