Eileen Smith passed away peacefully at Garnet Health Medical Center on Monday, December 4, 2023. She was 96 years old. She was born on June 25, 1927 in the Bronx to Nellie(Carey) O'Donovan and Daniel O'Donovan. She was a devoted and much loved wife, mother and grandmother.
She was the eldest of five children in a lively Irish Catholic family. After high school she went to work for the Telephone Co. She met and married Patrick "Paddy" Smith. Together they raised 4 children. She and Paddy loved to dance and would "cut a rug" to Glenn Miller or any of the big bands. She loved spending time at the beach. She and her sister, Pauline, could be found at Robert Moses State Park enjoying the sunshine on almost every Saturday and Sunday. She enjoyed family get-togethers with her sisters and brothers and their children. At her table a hot cup of tea was the solution to most of life's problems.
She is predeceased by her parents, her husband, Patrick, daughter, Geraldine Grant, her sister, Mary McGuinness, brother-in-law, John McGuinness, brother, John O'Donovan, sister, Pauline O'Donovan and sister-in-law, Eileen O'Donovan.
She is survived by her children: Christine Dolan(Dennis), Patrick Smith(Jeanette), Claire Pell(Jason), son-in-law, Peter Grant, brother, Gerald O'Donovan, grandchildren, Daniel, Timothy, Jean, Kate, Andrew, Kyle, Michael, Logan, Matthew and Nolan and great-grandchildren, Layla, Benjamin and Nathaniel and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation Tuesday December 12, 2023 from 3 - 6 pm at Riverdale-on-Hudson Funeral Home at 6110 Riverdale Avenue Bronx, NY. Mass of Christian burial at St Margaret of Cortona on Wednesday December 13 2023 at 9:45am. Interment at St Raymond's Cemetery at 11:45am.
