Elizabeth “Betty” Philbin (née Mulvaney)

November 27, 2023 Jeffrey Wiecek

Elizabeth “Betty” Philbin (née Mulvaney), aged 76, departed surrounded by her loving family on Monday, November 27, 2023 at Lawrence New York Presbyterian Hospital in Bronxville, New York.

Betty was married to Bill Philbin (Ballinrobe, County Mayo, Ireland) for over 52 years. Her children are MaryEllen, Annmarie, Liam, and Thomas.

Her grandchildren are Westley and Devin Watson (Annmarie and Wayne), Fiona and Niall Kenny (MaryEllen and Michael), and Sadie, William, and Ean Philbin (Liam and Erika Koop Philbin).

Betty is also survived by her siblings Margaret, Michael, Barbara, William, and Cathy.

Betty was born and raised in the Bronx to Michael Mulvaney of Virginia, County Cavan, Ireland and Catherine Conway of Lost Creek, Pennsylvania. She raised her four children in the Kingsbridge and Inwood neighborhoods of NYC, as well as Yonkers.

Betty was best known for her unyielding love, strength, sense of humor, and most of all, her directness.

Her interests included reading, history, crocheting, listening to music (especially Irish), writing long letters, and always asking for more photos of her grandchildren.  Her smile and genuine love she shared with everyone who crossed her path, her countless friends, and her loving family cannot possibly express how life will be without her, but we can all remember and cherish our very deep rooted happy memories with Betty.

A memorial service for Betty will be held at Riverdale-on-Hudson Funeral Home on Saturday, December 2nd from 2 -5 pm.

Finally, in lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation if possible to Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital or Lawrence New York Presbyterian Hospital, both of which valiantly helped Betty and family through trying times.
