Rose Donovan passed away on February 5, 2022 at the age of 100 years young. Rose was predeceased by her husband John, of County Kerry. She is survived by her son Johnny (Marie) and daughter Mary (Daniel), and grandchildren Padraig, Meadhbh and Ciaran.
Rose was born in County Tyrone, N. Ireland and emigrated to the U.S. in 1947. She worked on Park Avenue, Manhattan, where she lived. Rose met her husband at one of the many Irish dance halls on the East Side of Manhattan and married in 1953. They lived in Washington Heights for 25 years before moving to Riverdale, Bronx.
On November 19, 2021, Rose received a personal letter from Michael D. Higgins, Uachtaran na hEireann, President of Ireland, sending his warmest personal regards and sincere good wishes in celebration of the hundredth anniversary of Rose’s birth.
Rose enjoyed her many trips back to Ireland. On the eve of her 96th birthday, she could be found sitting on a beach in County Donegal.
