Father Arthur Welton, known to his friends as Art or Artie, died peacefully in his sleep Jan. 19. He was 78.
It was shocking to all that he died overnight. He had a very meaningful life, with many friends and admirers.
The son of Arthur and Marie Welton, Father Welton was born December 16,1943 and raised with his brothers and sister in St Raymond’s Parish, The Bronx
He was ordained on May 31, 1969 by Cardinal Terence Cooke.
The first son of an Army Officer, he was destined to be in the military.
He proudly served as Chaplin in the Army National Guard achieving the rank of Lieutenant Colonel
Viewing will be January 27, 2022 at Saint John Vianney Clergy Residence Chapel. Funeral Mass celebrated by Cardinal Dolan, and Bishop Edmund Whelan will immediately follow.
His sister Elizabeth and brother John, survive him, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. His brothers James and Richard pre-decease him.
Burial will take place in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, NY
