George Girard Nixon

August 16, 2021 Jeffrey Wiecek
Nixon.jpg

George Girard Nixon, of Bronx, New York, passed away at the age of 71 on August 16, 2021. George was proudly born and raised in the Bronx by his parents, George Nixon and Mary Nixon (nee McNamara). George was born February 26th, 1950, the oldest of three boys. He is survived by his brother John Francis Nixon (Lynn). He is predeceased by his brother Kevin Cornelius Nixon.  He was the loving, devoted father of Amy Greer (Robert) and Allison Nixon-Mulroy (Brian). He also was the very proud grandfather of Ryan Elizabeth and Robert Peter Greer. He also is survived by his ex-wife Ellen Nixon (Cordes) of Bronx, New York, who he remained lifelong friends with.  He was a loving uncle to Jennifer Fiorucci (Joseph) and Laura Renna (Lou). George worked for the New York City Housing Authority as a manager, his career spanned over three decades. George will be remembered for his love of movie trivia, Motown music, the New York Yankees, and especially his love of travel and cruising the world with his children and grandchildren. He will also be missed by his many friends and family whom he mentored and advised in many areas. George had a positive impact on everyone he met. George was incredibly generous, not only with the big things (He took his family all over the globe when he could), but also the little things, especially his time, (He never missed one of his grandkids ballgames, he never missed an opportunity to exchange a Christmas gift with those he loved, especially his former sister-in-law Carol Cordes, another longtime pal).

Due to COVID restrictions, masks are required, and time is restricted.

Reposing Thursday, August 19th from 1 to 4 pm at Riverdale-on-Hudson Funeral Home, 6110 Riverdale Avenue, Bronx NY.  Funeral mass to be held Friday, August 20th at 9:45 am at St Margaret of Cortona at 6000 Riverdale Ave, Bronx, NY 10471. Interment St. Raymond’s Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to the New York Blood Bank or consider another random act of kindness.
