Mary “Maureen” Ballantine

Mary Ballantine passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 18, 2021 at St. Cabrini Nursing Home in Dobbs Ferry, NY.

Maureen, as she was known to her family and friends, was born on Oct. 23, 1926 to John and Mary Dunne and grew up in New York City. She was married to John Ballantine, known as Jack, on Nov. 8, 1947 at Good Shepherd Church in the Inwood section of Manhattan.

Maureen was widowed at the age of 36 and raised her three daughters in Inwood before moving to the Riverdale section of the Bronx in 1980. She was a devout member of St. Gabriels Church, where she served as Eucharist Minister, Reader and was an active volunteer in many community outreach programs.

Maureen retired in 1991 as a Service Manager at R.H. Macy's in Herald Square where was a loved and valued employee for over 35 years.

Maureen was predeceased by her beloved husband, Jack, and an infant daughter, Theresa.

Maureen is survived by her three devoted daughters; Eileen Berry (Ronald), Barbara Penge (Pasquale) and Mary Anne Benza.

She also leaves behind her three grandchildren Kristen McDonnell (Shaun), Erin McKay (Drew) and Vincent Penge, as well as three great-grandchildren, Christian McDonnell and Maxwell and Cecily McKay. They were all a source of great pride and joy to her in her lifetime.

Visitors will be received on Monday, Nov. 22nd from 2 P.M.-5 P.M. at Riverdale-on-Hudson Funeral Home., 6110 Riverdale Avenue, Bronx, NY 10471. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, Nov. 23rd at 10:00 A.M. at the Church of St. Gabriel, 3250 Arlington Avenue, Bronx, NY 10463.

Interment will be on Tuesday at Long Island National Cemetery in Farmingdale, NY.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital and St. Francis Breadline, which were her two favorite charities.
