September 20, 2020 Jeffrey Wiecek
Mary-Lenihan.jpg

Mary Teresa Lenihan, (nee Moffett) passed away peacefully at home on September 20, 2020.   Mary was born in New York City on March 11, 1921 to James and Barbara Moffett, one of six siblings. She leaves behind four loving daughters, Mary (William) Mulcahy, Margaret (James) Bavosa, Barbara (late Kenneth) Garabrant, and Anne (James) Hennelly, Mary was predeceased by her husband, William Francis, beloved daughters, Jeanne Marie, Patricia Anne, and Eileen Lenihan, as well as dearest grandson, James (Jimmy) Mulcahy.

Mary’s journey in life took her from New York City to Riverdale, the Bronx, where she lived and raised her children. She was a dedicated mother, grandmother to fourteen, great grandmother to twenty-one, aunt, sister, daughter, friend, and neighbor.  She will be especially remembered for her unwavering devotion to her handicapped daughter, Eileen, for forty years. She will be forever cherished as Mary, Mrs. L., Mom, Mommy,  Nana, Grandma, Little Old Nana, Aunt Mary, and a myriad of other endearing nicknames. She was a blessing to everyone whose life she touched.

She was a diehard Yankees fan, listening to every game on the radio. Mary attended her first and only in-person game at age 89. She relished her Irish heritage (Up Sligo!), enjoyed Christmas, her birthdays, shopping, soda bread, and a good cup of tea. She will be sorely missed.

Due to COVID-19, the Wake at Riverdale on Hudson Funeral Home and Interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery will be held privately for family only.

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday, September 23, 2020 at 9:45 am at St. Margaret of Cortona Church, 6000 Riverdale Avenue, Bronx, NY 10471.

Donations in her name may be made to Elizabeth Ann Seton Pediatric Center in Yonkers, or Calvary Hospital in the Bronx.
