Stephen Henry Michael

January 9, 2020 Jeffrey Wiecek
Stephen-Michael.jpg

Surrounded by family and friends, Stephen Henry Michael departed this life on January 9, 2020, after a courageous three year battle with cancer.  He was 36 years old.  He is survived by his beloved wife, Kendra Cabrera, and their adored daughter, Zofia Francesca, parents Barbara (nee Leisher) and Chris Michael, and brother Douglas (Mary). Steve was predeceased by his uncle, Aleksander Michael, his grandparents, Ludwik Edward and Anna Tyzner Michael, and John Franklin and Johanna Kormann Leisher.  He was the cherished nephew of John and Sue Leisher, Stan and Susan Michael and Tom Michael, cousin of Jennifer Leisher (Chris Vega), Laura Leisher, Jeffrey Michael, Jill Michael Cameron (Leon), and proud uncle of Madison, Miabella, Nathaniel, Henry, Riley, Liam, April, and Stephen.  He was a devoted member of the Cabrera, Valdez, Ramirez and Tiburcio families, and friend to countless others from college, Troop 4 Bronxville Scouts, and his travels throughout the United States, Europe, Central and South America.

Steve graduated from Fordham Preparatory School and earned a BA from the University of Connecticut.  He was solidly embarked on a career in hospitality management and studying for an MBA at Baruch College's Zicklin School of Business when his illness was diagnosed. Steve was compassionate, generous, and insatiably curious, with wide ranging interests in music and literature.  He was an accomplished chef who loved to entertain.  His incisive wit and ability to quickly assess a situation made him a natural leader who followed the motto he learned from his days as a scout, "Keep it simple, make it fun."

The family will receive friends and family on Wednesday, January 15th, from 5 pm - 9 pm at Riverdale-on-Hudson Funeral Home, 6110 Riverdale Ave., West 261st St, Bronx, NY. Funeral service will be held at Christ Church Riverdale, 5040 Henry Hudson Parkway East, Bronx, NY on Sunday, January 19th, at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, the Michael family asks that you make a donation to a Go Fund Me account for Zofia’s education.
