Joan McLaughlin Young Kearney

Joan McLaughlin Young Kearney, age 89, passed away on Monday, December 16th in the home in which she was born. She was predeceased by her husband Eugene Kearney, her parents, Emma and John McLaughlin, and her six siblings.

She is survived by her children, Catherine Brady (Phil, deceased) of Harriman, NY, Jean DePace (Stephen) of Carolina Shores, NC, Mary  Cooney (Edward) of Point Pleasant, NJ, William Young (Patricia) of Mattituck, NY, Joseph Young (Anne Marie) of Carmel, NY, and Barbara Young of Rochester, NY. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and 3 stepsons.

On Thursday, December 19th, the family will receive family and friends at the Riverdale-on-Hudson Funeral Home, 6110 Riverdale Ave., Bronx, NY from 4 to 8 pm. On Friday, the 20th there will be a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Margaret of Cortona, 6000 Riverdale Ave., Bronx, NY at 9:45 am. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, NY.

Joan had a strong devotion to the Blessed Mother throughout her life and she faithfully cared for the grotto in her yard that was built by her mother to watch over her brothers while they served overseas during WWII. She loved music and dancing and had a passion for gardening. She enjoyed frequent trips to the Caribbean, and above all loved spending time with her family and friends

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Joan’s name to the Skeletal Dysplasia Program of the Nemours/Alfred I. DuPont Hospital for Children and mailed to The Nemours Fund for Children’s Health, Shands House, 1600 Rockland Rd., Wilmington, DE  19803.
