Maureen T. Brolly

June 29, 2018 Jeffrey Wiecek

Maureen T. Brolly, 79 years young, passed away on June 29, 2018. She was known and loved by many, most notably as our beloved  daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, aunt ("Gibbs"), friend, and dedicated Catholic.

Maureen, a lifelong New Yorker, was born to William and Margaret ("Rita") Shanahan. She was a lover of life -- happiest in the company of others where she shared her laughter and her "gift of gab." She was always the first to volunteer supporting the school and parish of St. Gabriel's and her children's high schools, Notre Dame School & Fordham Prep.  She also gave several years of her time to St. Francis of Assisi on 34th Street, and the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.  She loved to offer advice and share her colorful personal opinion, and she always made sure to include others - no one was ever left out.  She was notorious for her fashionably late arrivals, and being the last one to leave the party.

Maureen retired from a successful career as a VP of Human Resources at American Airlines to focus on raising her three children in the Catholic faith. She embraced her role as mother and emotionally adopted most of her children’s friends. As her children married and had families of their own, Maureen poured herself into the role of grandmother ("Nanny" or "Nannie to them) and emotionally adopted most of their friends as well, but never retired from being a mother.

Maureen was predeceased by her parents and her sister (Anne, aka "Nancy") and leaves behind her brother (Billy / Fr. Michael), husband Richard (of 51 years), her children (Theresa, Richard, and Peggy), and her eight granddaughters (Caitlin, Colleen, Ciara, Leila, Carys, Faith, Emily, and Eloise).

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Maureen’s name to her brother’s (Fr. Michael’s) order: “Congregation of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary” Post Box 111; Fairhaven, MA 02719

Reposing Sunday July 8th 2018 from 2-5 & 7-9 pm at Riverdale-on-Hudson Funeral Home, 6110 Riverdale Ave, Bronx NY.  Mass of Christian Burial Monday 10 am at St. Gabriel’s Church.  Interment Calvary Cemetery, Queens NY.
