Margaret Ann Mitchell (nee McMahon) , aged 86, of 3333 Henry Hudson Parkway, Riverdale, NY, passed away peacefully, January 18, 2018, surrounded by her devoted family. She was born January 15, 1932 in the town land of Clouncuneen, Carrigaholt, Co. Clare, Ireland. She arrived in America in 1949, met her beloved husband John, and went onto have eight children.

Margaret was an amazing woman who touched the lives of all she knew. She truly was an angel. Her smile could light up the universe. She was happiest when surrounded by her children and grandchildren, loving them all unconditionally. She was a legendary story teller, a true Shanache, charming her family with stories of life in rural Ireland. She loved her brothers and sisters deeply and had tremendous reverence and respect for her parents, Martin and Ellen. Margaret was fiercely loyal and always defended the underdog. We were all her favorites. She was an amazing mother and grandmother, making us who we are today. We will forever be guided by her loving light and enormous strength. Despite her many health scares, she loved life and nothing held her back. Margaret could make your gloomiest day seem bright and sunny. Her love was infectious. She was a real life “Wonder Woman.”

Margaret is pre-deceased by her parents, Martin and Ellen (nee Lynch) McMahon, her siblings, Mary, Paddy, Sean, Kitty, Eileen, Delia, Peter and Teresa, and her husband, John Mitchell. She is survived by her children, Mary, Patricia (John), Helen, Patrick (Barbie-Jo), Michael (Elizabeth), John (Johanna), Margaret, and Dorothy (Keith); her grandchildren, Raymond, Shana, Michael, Erin, Johannah, Patrick, Amanda, Sarah, Jordan, Michaela, Moriah, Zachary, Dylan and Triston; her great grandchildren, Lauren, Christina, and Erik; sisters-in-law Jenny McMahon, and Dorothy Mitchell; and countless nieces and nephews throughout the US, UK, AU, and Ireland.

Until we meet again, sleep in peace, our sweet Maggie Ann.

Reposing Monday January 22, 2018 from 5-9 pm at Riverdale-on-Hudson Funeral Home, 6110 Riverdale Avenue, Bronx NY. Mass of Christian Burial Tuesday 10 am at Good Shepherd RC Church, 4967 Broadway, NY, NY.  Interment Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Valhalla NY.
