Mary Agnes Lucey

May 11, 2017 Jeffrey Wiecek

Mary Agnes Lucey (née McKinney) passed into eternal life on the morning of Thursday, May 11th.  She was surrounded by her loved ones at home when she returned to God.  Mary was born to William and Grace McKinney in Donegal, Ireland in 1930 and bravely immigrated to the United States as a young woman.  In New York, she met her husband of 48 years, Daniel Lucey, who passed away in 2005.  They married and began a life together in Manhattanand Ireland before eventually settling in their family home of more than five decades on Liebig Avenue.

She was a devoted mother to her four loving children, Joanne (Rich), Grace (Bob), Bernadette, and Danny (Helena) and grandmother to six grandchildren,Richard, Alana, Kieran, Lauren, Daniel and Elizabeth.  She also leaves behind her siblings, Rose, Kathleen, Celine, Lily, Briedge, Agnes, Liam, Seamus, and the late Sr.Margaret Mary, Eileen, and Donal.  She was a sister-in-law and aunt to many.

Special thanks to Mary’s loyal and dedicated caregiver, Maggie Smith.

Mary loved nothing more than to share a laugh with family and friends, to tell stories and jokes, and to enjoy a meal around a table set with love.  She made everyone who came into her home feel welcomed and valued.  As a long time parishioner of Saint Margaret of Cortona Church, her prayer life was very important to her and she lived out her faith at all times, treating everyone she met with dignity and kindness.  She loved to create things, always working on a sewing, crocheting, or craft project or even just a clever doodle in the corner of many household papers!  She was loved deeply by her family and will be dearly missed.

Mary Lucey will lie in repose on Monday, May 15th2-5pm and 7-9pm at Riverdale-on-Hudson Funeral Home, 6110 Riverdale Avenue, Bronx NY 10471. A Mass of Christian Burial at St. Margaret of CortonaChurch will be on Tuesday, May 16th at 9:45am. Interment will be at Gate of Heaven, Hawthorne, NY.
