Alfred H. Bowen

Alfred H. Bowen passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by four generations of his family, on November 30. He was 87 years old, and died of natural causes. Mr. Bowen is survived by his wife of 63 years, Joan (nee Brady) and their seven children: Christopher (Darlene), Robert (Armilyn), Edward, Kenneth (Laura), Andrew, Kathleen Ha (YongSoo), and Daniel. He was also blessed with ten grandchildren: Timothy, Constance, Nicholas, Jennifer, Alyssa Ha, Kathryn Ha, Grace, Benjamin, Elizabeth, and Rosa, and three great grandchildren: Alfred, Theadora, and Oliver. He isalso survived by his brother Bill of San Angelo TX. A veteran of the Korean War, Mr. Bowen served as Staff Sergeant in the army. He held Master’s and Bachelor’s Degrees from New York University. Over his lifetime he wrote verses and was a published poet. Mr. Bowen’s career spanned forty-three years in Human Resources and Labor Relations in both the private and public sectors. Following service with Sperry Rand, CBS, and the NYC Health Department, he retired from the NYC Human Resources Administration in 1996.  Memorial wake Friday 2-4 & 7-9 pm at Riverdale-on-Hudson Funeral Home, 6110 Riverdale Avenue, Bx, NY .  Services Saturday10 am at the funeral home.  Interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.   In lieu of flowers, donations for the Silver Bay Library, where Mr. Bowen served as volunteer for many years, may be sent to Silver Bay YMCA, 80 Silver Bay Road, Silver Bay, NY 12874. Al was deeply loved by all his family and many friends.  He will long be remembered for his fine mind, his appreciation of all things beautiful, his love of words, from puns and crossword puzzles to the deepest poetry, and his fine ethics and loving Christian spirit.
