James P. McGuinness passed away on December 7, after a brief, sudden illness. James was a Class of 1978 graduate of the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, New York. After graduation, Jim spent 16 years sailing the world, including serving in the Merchant Marine support to the United States Navy during the Persian Gulf War. In 1994 he was licensed by the United States Coast Guard to serve as Master of U.S. Steam or Motor Vessels of any gross tons upon oceans. In recent years Jim stayed closer to home by becoming a Track Inspector for the New York City Transit Authority where he was presently employed.
Jim is predeceased by his parents, John M. and Mary McGuinness and nephew, Brian McGuinness. Jim is survived by brother John (Madeline) sisters Susan Toner (Patrick) and Sheila Alagia (Alfred). He was the beloved uncle of John Michael McGuinness (Lena) and Caitlin, Patrick and Carra Toner. Hewill be fondly remembered by his aunts, uncle and many cousins.
Jim will be recalled for his devotion to the New York Yankees, his avid reading, and the love he had for his family. He will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be on Thursday, December 10, 2015 at Riverdale-on-Hudson Funeral Home from 2-5 and 7 -9 pm. Mass of Christian Burial to be held at St Margaret of CortonaChurch on Friday, December 11, 2015 at 9:45am. Burial at St Raymond's Cemetery to follow.
