Death Notice - David Joseph O’Connell, 84, of Fairfield, OH passed away peacefully on June 27, 2014 at his home with his wife by his side after a brief illness. “Joe” O’Connell, son of Mary and Jack O’Connell, is survived by his wife of 55 years (Marguerite “Bunnie” O’Connor O’Connell), son Brian and his wife Laura Connors of Boston, son Sean and his wife Beth of Fairfield, grandchildren Caitlin O’Connell, Maeve O’Connell and James Connors, sister Daisy O’Connor, nieces and nephews Shirley Higgins and her husband Chris, John O’Connor, Philip O’Connor and his wife Deidre, and Maria O’Connor, and six grand nieces and grand nephews, one great grand nephew, and many cousins in England, New York, New Jersey and Chicago. Joe was predeceased by brothers Sean, James and sister Bea.
Born on October 19, 1929 in Castleisland Co. Kerry Ireland, Joe married Bunnie on July 6th 1959 and immigrated to the Unites States shortly thereafter. Residing in New York City and later in Hollywood, FL, he worked in the airline industry for 40 years, beginning with Eastern Airlines, followed by Pan Am and Carnival Air. Joe was an avid amateur photographer, capturing the family history in indelible images of all the major family events over many years. He returned to Ireland every year and loved spending time with his family and friends in the US, Ireland and England. Joe’s commitment to family and friends, sense of humor, and his masterful ability to fix anything will be greatly missed by all who loved him.
Family will receive visitors on Sunday, July 6 from 2:00-6:00 pm at Riverdale-on-Hudson Funeral Home, 6110 Riverdale Avenue, Bronx, NY. The Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, July 7th at 10:45am at Church of the Incarnation, 1290 St. Nicholas Avenue, New York City.
