Gloria Nicosia

Gloria Nicosia, age 92, was born on April 13th 1927 in Bronx NY to Rose and Leandro DePanicis. Gloria graduated from Evander Childs High School. Gloria lived her life in Riverdale, Lake Carmel and Jupiter Florida. Gloria died peacefully surrounded by her family on October 4th in East Brunswick NJ. She was a loving wife to Sam, married for 44 years and devoted mother to Larry and Debbie. Gloria served the city of NY, working in the administrations of three New York City mayors in the 1950s. She worked for another 25 years in Manhattan College as an executive secretary. Gloria enjoyed following politics and current events and working for the New York City board of elections. She was very active in her community as a member of St Margaret’s Guild, The Knights of Columbus, the Italian American Club. She was an avid reader and followed many news channels on television. She loved to travel, garden, shop and spend time outdoors. 

Most of all she loved her New York Yankees, namely ARod. She was rooting for them to win their 28th world championship. Gloria loved to dance and was always the life of the party. 

She had a special love for her family including nieces, nephews, cousins and most of all her grandchildren. Last year, Gloria was thrilled to become a great grandmother. 

She was predeceased by her husband Salvatore, her mother Rose DePanicis as well as her brother Armand DePanicis and sister Anne Amorosi. Surviving are her son Lawrence Nicosia and wife Patricia, daughter Deborah LeSeur and husband Michael. Also surviving are Gloria’s grandchildren, Stefanie Rehor and her husband Frank, Danielle Nicosia, Lawrence Nicosia III, Jacqueline LeSeur and Nicole LeSeur and her recent great grandchild Gianna Belle Rehor.

Gloria will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She will be remembered for her smile, her strength and zest for life. 

The family will receive friends on Tuesday October 8th from 4-9PM 

A mass of Christian burial will be held  on Wednesday October 9th at 9:45AM at St. Margaret’s of Cortona Catholic Church in Riverdale, NY. Burial will follow at St. Raymond’s Cemetery.
