Patrick Malachy Hennessy

Patrick Malachy Hennessy was born on November 3rd, 1932 to James Hennessy and Mary Kearns. Born premature, he was a fighter from the very beginning. Growing up in Kilsheelan, Co. Tipperary, Ireland, hurling was in his blood. It was discovered from an early age that Paddy had talent in the sport. He immigrated in 1961 to New York City and married the love of his life, Alice Normoyle in 1963. Paddy suffered from a massive stroke on May 29, 2016 and he fought a hard fight for almost two years.

Paddy’s beloved wife, Alice, of 54 years who passed away suddenly on November 20, 2017, predeceases him. He is survived by his three children: Ann Marie, Patricia, and Patrick Jr. Paddy leaves behind his eight grandchildren: Laura, Johanna, Gary, James, Ryan, Brianna, Mikaela, and Olivia. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law Ellen Henessy and his son-in-law Gary Gerold.   His younger brother James who resides in Kilsheelan, as well as his only nephew Jimmy and his wife Margaret also survives him. Also, Paddy’s older brother, Tom, who had resided in England, predeceases him.  Paddy Hennessy was known as being a “living legend.” Now he will always be the eternal legend in our hearts. We will always remember his Irish pride, wit, sarcasm, and charm. He will now have free admission to Gaelic Park for eternity. You can run now Pop, be with Alice. Up Tipp forever!

Reposing Sunday March 11, 2018 from 4-8 pm at Riverdale-on-Hudson Funeral Home, 6110 Riverdale Avenue, Bronx NY.  Mass of Christian Burial Monday March 12, 2018 at 9:45 am at St. Margaret of Cortona Church. Interment St. Mary's Cemetery, Yonkers NY.  Memorial donations can be made to the Hebrew Home for the Aged at Riverdale in his memory.  The family is grateful for the care and compassion they showed him during the last two years of his life.
