Maria Esperanza Ortiz

            “ A loving mother and remarkable human being”

Proud to have been a 3rd grade teacher she taught her children the subject matters common for children their age. However, she was not an ordinary teacher. She immersed herself in the spiritual and physical well being of her students. It was no surprise as Maria possessed an innate ability to be kind, honest, authentic and mild manner. These are special qualities for which she was admired and respected.

Maria gave unconditional loyalty to her family and friends.  She was a dedicated Catholic with a strong belief in family values and education; a quality that she instilled in her children. Maria studied the bible and was an avid daily reader.  She also enjoyed reading Vanidades y Hola Magazines. She loved history, traveling and being around friends. Celebrating the joy of living with her family was her greatest joy!    In 1990, Maria was very proud to have published her book “Mi Viaje a Europa.”  A book rich in the historical facts of Spain and Portugal. Her description of the countries landscape, food and beauty left you savoring a desire to explore more. Maria passed away on Sunday, February 4th, 2018 at her home in Yonkers where she lived with her daughter Alma.

It’s undeniable that although gone in flesh Maria’s spirit will always live with those she cherished. Mostly with her daughter Alma who throughout her life professed unconditional love and dedication to her mother Maria.  She is survived by her three daughters, to whom she professed unconditional love.

Reposing Tuesday February 6, 2018 from 4-9 pm and Wednesday February 7, 2018 from 10:00 am until noon at Riverdale-on-Hudson Funeral Home, 6110 Riverdale Avenue, Bronx NY. Mass of Christian Burial Wednesday February 7, 2018 at 1:00 pm at St. Margaret of Cortona Church. Entombment Woodlawn Cemetery.

“Madre amorosa y un ser humano extraordinario”

Orgullosa de haber sido maestra del 3er grado, les enseñó a sus ninos las materias comunes para los niños de su edad. Sin embargo, ella no era una maestra ordinaria. Ella se sumergió en el bienestar espiritual y físico de sus estudiantes. No fue una sorpresa ya que María poseía una habilidad innata para ser honesta, auténtica y amable. Estas son cualidades especiales por las cuales fue admirada y respetada. María les dio lealtad incondicional a su familia y amigos. Ella era una católica dedicada con una fuerte creencia en los valores familiares y la educación; una cualidad que ella inculcó en sus hijos. María estudió la Biblia y fue una ávida lectora diaria. Ademas disfrutaba leyendo Vanidades y Hola Magazines.  Ella amaba la historia, viajar y estar con amigos. ¡Celebrar la alegría de vivir con su familia fue su mayor alegría! En 1990, María estaba muy orgullosa de haber publicado su libro "Mi Viaje a Europa". Un libro rico en hechos históricos de España y Portugal. Su descripción del paisaje, la comida y la belleza de los países le dejaron saborear el deseo de explorar más.

Maria falleció el domingo 4 de febrero de 2018 en su casa en Yonkers, donde vivía con su hija Alma.

Es innegable que, aunque halla fallecido, el espíritu de María siempre vivirá con aquellos a quienes amaba.  Principalmente su hija Alma, quien siempre le dedico a ella amor y dedicacion incondicional.
